The Relaunch

Today is Day 2 of the relaunch of my blog. I have so much to catch you up on, but for today I’m going to share this. Since my last regular postings, I have fallen in love with plants. Right? Who knew? This week I had the pleasure of visiting a small business, and as I often do, I got a chance to talk to the owner and hear her story. Can I tell you that I left with a full heart? I mean my face was beaming, and I was thrilled for her. And I walked away praying that other people would get the memo. How did she start growing all of these beautiful, lush plants? Covid. Isolation. A grieved spirit. She told me that she had been working in the hospital during Covid, where she had to watch people die without the presence of any loved ones. The experience was soul crushing. In addition, she spent lots of time isolated from her family because she didn’t want to get any of them sick. Who was left? Plants, dirt, and her garage. It was in having her hands in soil and watching them grow that gave her hope. She resigned from her hospital job and ventured out into something new. I believe she told me that she eventually had an online shop for about three years and opened her brick and mortar store a few months ago. I just have to say that I went at the recommendation of a friend, but I had no idea that I was going to walk into a place that felt like heaven. Remember how I said I have a lot to catch you up on? During Covid, my outlet was hiking with my friends. I walked with old friends and made new friends along the way. I also had to deal with the foot pain that had been vexing me and finally agreed to have foot surgery. During my recovery, I brought the plants to me since I had to take a break from hiking. I digress. My point, the owner and I both had to find a way to deal with the very harsh blows that were dealt to us during Covid. I think what we are seeing in our nation are the results of the isolation and the blows that people are still dealing with (or not dealing with). As you navigate these troubling times, it is always my hope and prayer that you find the thing that brings your soul joy. It will make a difference in how you spend your days and how you feel as you live them out.
