Finishing What I Started

That moment you sit down to write and discover you have pages and pages of content you never finished. Whew!!! This could be a moment when I get overwhelmed, but I think I will just reflect instead. This year has been insane!!! This year has had highs and lows. And based on what I’m seeing right here on this purple laptop, this year has had lots of starts and stops. I vowed to write for 365 days, but I think I wrote for about five months and stopped. But wait! I did write almost daily. I just didn’t share what I wrote with others. If I calculated the number of pages from various places on my laptop and on my phone, I probably have enough content for a novel; but self-doubt crept in. Emotional wounds stunted my progress. I stopped myself. Here’s what I have learned over the past year. Outside forces will always come. Internal doubt will almost always whisper in your ear with every step you take forward. What makes some progress and others retreat? Sheer will. Tenacious determination. That inner grit that says I will climb Mount Everest even when my fingertips are frost bitten, my shoes are worn, and the force of the winds have ripped my outer layers away. I will follow my dream and finish what I started. As the year draws to an end and I acknowledge all of my starts and stops, I can move forward and finish the work I started.
