Hole Versus Whole

In the middle of a conversation I had with my son, he talked about what it feels like to have a hole in your heart. That missing piece…the place that nothing seems to fill. We were talking about broken relationships and the people who broke us. As much as those people disappointed us, we chose not to hold anything against them because they themselves were broken. Anytime people run from person to person they are trying to fill a void in their heart that they think another person will fill. Unfortunately my son and I fell for those types of people, but then again he and I were trying to fill a void in our own lives. That is apparent considering we continued to look for broken people to fix the brokenness in our own lives. We had to reach the place where we realized that no one can fix us but God. His love, His presence, and His grace working in us and through us to fill the missing piece. That is the only way to truly be whole.
