Social Media

I’ve had two 40+ women tell me over the past few months that they don’t do social media, and I asked them why. I was asking them if they had seen my blog or my fitness page, and they said no because they don’t like the drama of social media. I understood where they were coming from, but here’s what I thought about today. I went to a beautiful, inspirational event on Saturday that I found out through social media, and at the conclusion the hostess asked us to check out a message she did on YouTube. It too was incredibly powerful. And then I thought about these two women and the trick of the enemy. Social media can be used in powerful ways. My soul was blessed because of the event I learned about through social media. In fact, I met the hostess through dance fitness, which I started doing as a result of social media. A few years ago I made moves to lose weight because of social media. My friends were posting their success stories, and eventually I got up off the couch and did something about my weight because of how they inspired me. Because I started posting about my own weight loss journey, I eventually wrote a book. The book then led to a blog, and blogging daily gave me the courage and stamina to write a second book. Social media became the tool God used to get me to answer the call to write. When I hear testimonies and success stories, I think about how many people can be reached just by clicking share over and over again. But the enemy got in and tried to mess that up. I said tried. Sure, a few people have checked out because of the misuse and abuse of social media, but my prayer is that God’s people put it into their hands and use it for a greater purpose. Instead of bullying, build up. Instead of envying, celebrate. Instead of misusing, use social media to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and what He can do in the lives of people.
