A Story of Excellence

I began writing this blog in January, and in the early days I wrote a blog called “The Heart of a Servant”, which was based on one of my former principals. This now high school principal is one of the hardest working women I know, and she leads by example. The day she gained my highest respect is the day we did lunch duty together, and she picked up a broom and began sweeping the cafeteria floor. In 20+ years of teaching I had only seen one other example of that (another former principal used to cut the school’s grass), and I admired her for being willing to do the necessary work to maintain the building. I can’t control how others will view my series of blogs in education, but I know the intent of my heart. I have seen several colleagues and administrators exhibit a spirit of excellence that has made me proud to be a part of NPS for 26 years. I know of administrators who have bought clothing and shoes for students whose families were struggling. I know of the money they put out to help students play sports, buy materials, or go on field trips. These people are unsung heroes because they don’t advertise the good that they do. Sadly because of the misdeeds of others, many of them have received a bad name, and that simply isn’t the case. There are many who do admirable work daily. It’s time to highlight them but also time to shine a light on the worst so that the organization can function as it should.
