The Chosen One

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

My students were surprised when I told them I love to watch cartoons. Right now I’m crushing on Miraculous, an adorable French cartoon set in the heart of Paris. Although I’ve been watching a couple of months, they recently showed a flashback episode of how the main character became a superhero. When she first received the call, she told her soon to be mentor that she identified the wrong one. She pointed out others who were more qualified, and then her mentor said what all of us who say yes hear. “But you are the chosen one.” I know we may look at our own lives and discount the gifts within us. We may wonder what it is about us that God could possibly use. But if we are honest with ourselves, we know He is calling us, we know He has a purpose for us, and we know that He is talking to US. I fought it for a long time. Me, Lord? You want me to write and share? But I can find you some people who are holier and more talented. Yet here I am. I wish you could have heard the cry I just let out. Yep, it’s me. Yep, it’s you. Go on out there are do what He called you to do because you are the chosen one.
