Beware the Ides of March

I can’t let this day go without using this title. Mid March is considered the middle of March or the “Ides of March,” and in literature it refers to when Julius Caesar was betrayed by his comrades. I’m hesitant to call his comrades friends because do friends circle you and stab you to death? I don’t know. In the times we live in, it seems as if betrayal is imminent yet because it is betrayal we rarely know where it will come from. A few days ago I wrote about how writing makes me feel exposed, so exposed that I’m sitting on my most vulnerable blogs. I get it. It is hard to give yourself 100% when you have been betrayed before. And even if you haven’t been betrayed you saw it happen to someone else. At the very first women’s conference I attended the word for the conference was to guard your heart. Your heart is valuable and precious, and when it is broken it can seem impossible to function as you did before it was broken. I’ve been there. The phone call that said I’m leaving you for alcohol. Oh, it wasn’t worded like that, but that’s what the gist of the betrayal was. It amazes me how much I can write about it now with no tears, no pain, and absolutely no sadness. Why? Because after God healed my heart, I saw the breakup for what it was. God’s divine intervention and protection. I was unequally yoked with someone who was killing my soul. Oh, I know. The person who betrayed you wasn’t killing your soul. Yet. Key word…YET. When God allows people to leave your life, He is protecting you from what happened to Julius Caesar. He is protecting you from people who may not want to kill your body, but they just might have intentions to kill your spirit and your soul. And those are much too valuable, along with your heart, to be broken beyond recognition. Love, trust, extend, but put your complete heart in the hands of the One who created it.
