Your Life Is a Message: Here’s Proof

Two years ago one of my students approached me and told me she wished her aunt could talk to me. When I asked why, my student said because her aunt was going through a divorce and couldn’t shake the unhappiness. My student said that she wanted her aunt to see me, someone who was living a happy life in spite of having gone through a divorce. Whew! Where do I start? This made me think of just how long it took me to get to a happier place and to finally shake off the dark days. More on my own battle with depression later because this blog has a different purpose. I know I talk often about hearing from God, but I distinctly remember the first thing I understood Him to say to me. Not during the darkest days but during the time that I was coming out of them, I heard God say that He was going to use my life to show people that there is life after divorce. That they too could experience joy again and live a full and happy life. I admit that I was extremely skeptical at first. I mean, wasn’t this rock bottom? Yes, it was rock bottom, and little did I know I would hit many other rock bottoms from 29 to 47. But I kept what God spoke to me in my heart. God was going to use me. Messed up me. Struggling me. Many times unhappy me. As He worked in me I did see brighter days, and by the time this student was in my class I had found joy, so much so that she saw it and wanted to share it with her loved one. Just yesterday I asked her how her aunt was doing, and she told me this. Her aunt has moved geographically, but she hasn’t moved on emotionally. She is still grieving the loss of her marriage, She is making progress but has yet to embraced new found joy. I pray that she will eventually connect with me or someone else for prayer and encouragement or even coaching. Our lives do send a message. As much as I struggled to find joy, I’m thankful that it is now visible, and my prayer is for each of us to get the place of peace and joy that God has for us. This isn’t just for us but so that we can give someone else hope that their peace and joy are coming back.
