Thank You, Trailblazers

I think most of us can agree that it is difficult to be a trailblazer, that person who puts himself or herself out there to be the first in anything. This post was originally scheduled in honor of Dr. King, but lots happened that day that I’m embarrassed to say I got distracted. But I kept coming back to this topic that I had written in my notes but still had to flesh out on paper. Shortly after Dr. King’s birthday a quote from my son came up as a Facebook memory, and I still think it is perfect. My son said it is great to honor Dr. King but to never fail to give honor to God who led Dr. King to do all that He did. Yes!!! That’s it. Yes, it can be difficult to be a trailblazer, but isn’t the journey so much better when you are led by God? I was in class this week, and my mind was on a few things I wanted to address in the fitness world. Part of me said, Angie, don’t worry about it. Just dance and enjoy yourself. But I knew that there were people who weren’t in class because of a slight or a personal hurt, and I knew I wouldn’t sleep well until I addressed the problem and encouraged people who were hurting. All of us have a choice to either speak up for the hurting or to turn a blind eye. In my radical mind I want you to think about something. What privileges are you currently enjoying that you wouldn’t be enjoying if trailblazers hadn’t paved the way? Now can you see how you have a responsibility to pay it forward? Better yet, pray it forward asking God for the power to blaze trails set before you and then watch HIM work through you.
