The Prayer

Sometimes troubles come to cause us to pray and to talk to God. I can’t tell you how many days I have allowed to pass without really talking to God, and then trouble comes. I can’t fix it, but I know Who can. Today I received two prayer requests, and when I got some quiet time I prayed. John 10:10 says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” My prayer for us in the coming year is to recognize the motive of the enemy, especially in terms of causing fear, discord, and discouragement and just chaos in general. In return we need to call on God for the abundant life that we have been promised in John 10:10. In the past I made the mistake of thinking of abundance only in terms of material possessions, but I’ve had material possessions without health. I’ve had material possessions with no peace. No, my friends, I pray that you will live a life that is abundant with the love of God, the peace of God, and the joy of God. I don’t know how you grew up, but I grew up believing that God was a punishing God looking to catch me in my sins and cast me away. No, that’s not who He is. He is a loving God who hears us when we pray, and He’s waiting with open arms to pour into us. I pray that you take time today to pray and to spend some quiet time with God. There is nothing on this material earth that can compare with the supernatural presence of God.
